Membership Recruitment Activities:
We invite our ladies of our community to a High Tea, to share the mission of Philoptochos and recruit members. We also highlight membership in our monthly bulletins as well as distribute leaflets at our coffee hour after church services.”
[In addition, at this year’s Tea on February 9th, we invited Diane Tsekares from the National Philoptochos Board Membership Committee, to speak on membership recruitment.]

Katy Geanopoulos, President

It was an honor to hold a reception tea on Saturday 14th of January to mark the 70th year of our Saint Agape chapter of Philoptochos. The function was widely attended and it was a great success. The ladies demonstrated
exceptional talent and effort to create such a wonderful event.

We also sponsored the “Cutting of the Vasilopita” in January. The gold coin was received by Father Nick Rafael.  Our collection was sent to the St. Basil’s Academy.

We participated in the “Agape Luncheon” hosted by the Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos. This event honored many Philoptochos members who have provided over 50 years of service, working tirelessly for many causes.  Those of us who were able to attend were very proud to represent three members from the Wilmington chapter – Helen Gregory, Kathryn Rayias, and Presvytera Mary Giannaris. We thank these ladies for all their support and effort. In addition, we are proud to have presented a donation towards the Philoptochos Center of Philanthropy.

Although we were unable to attend, our chapter contributed towards the visitation of St. Michael’s Home of the Aged.

On the Sunday of Orthodoxy, we sponsored a memorial service in honor of past Philoptochos members and all members of the community who are no longer with us.  The entire community was invited to celebrate this service in commemoration of all those who have contributed so much to Holy Trinity. We also passed a tray to raise funds for social services.

On Sunday of the Holy Cross we passed the tray in support of the Holy Cross School for Theology.

As we look forward, on April 8, Palm Sunday, we are delighted to host a Lenten fish luncheon immediately after the church service.

Fall 2011 News:

The St. Agape Chapter of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity, Wilmington, Delaware, was established in 1942. A very small number of faithful ladies dedicated their time and talent to the promotion of Christian values and philanthropy. They provided for the many needs within the Delaware community.

In 1943, Maria Geanopulos was elected president and served for 16 consecutive years. Through the help of our Lord, the St. Agape chapter of Philoptochos was able to provide unwavering support to the many families in Greece who were suffering during WWII.

Today, our chapter continues the legacy of true philanthropy. It remains steadfast and committed to organizing fundraisers and functions to provide financial assistance to the many local charities and chapter obligations to the national organization.

On September 18, 2011, we will celebrate the name day of our chapter, St. Agape, with the Artoclasia and all newly elected officials will be sworn in. A tray will be passed for the benefit of the Holy Cross Theological School.

On October 1, 2011, we are looking forward to welcoming Mrs. Anastasia Michaels, President of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Philoptochos along with many members of the chapter.

Upcoming fundraisers for the month of November are hosting our local event, Bid and Buy, a special tray for the needs of the Patriarchate, collections for the poor and the community Christmas card activity

On December 4, Philoptochos will provide a communion breakfast for all children. And, on December 10, Philoptochos will host our annual Christmas dinner.

In 2012, we look forward to celebrating our 70th anniversary and to continuing the many philanthropic works of this great organization.
