Philoptochos Chapter 1033: Saint Barbara at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, Piscataway NJ

Fall 2013 News:

Membership Recruitment Activities:
During Membership Month, we host a Membership Luncheon, in our Church hall after the Liturgy. We invite the entire congregation. We put our informational brochure and registration forms on each table. We have a table set up where they can register. We advertise for the luncheon by putting articles in the weekly Church bulletin for several weeks and also in our Church’s bi-monthly newsletter. During the luncheon, we have a motivational speaker talk about all of the wonderful things that our organization does. During this month we also set up a table during coffee hours to talk to parishioners about Philoptochos and hand out our brochure and registration materials. Our Philoptochos has recently formed a welcoming committee. We are in charge of welcoming parishioners to Church every Sunday. As we hand out the Church bulletin we also take this opportunity to pass out information about Philoptochos and personally invite people to consider joining our group.

Spring 2012 News:

We started the year of our Lord 2012, with a Blessing from our Pastor, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Pastrikos and a successful Vasilopita Celebration, January 15 with the participation of our community to enjoy this wonderful Greek Orthodox tradition as a family. All proceeds were mailed out, to benefit the children of St. Basil Academy.

February found us preparing for our Membership Drive Brunch, offered to all of our parish on February 5, after the Sunday Liturgy. We informed our ladies of our activities, and passed around pamphlets and applications for new members.

Sunday February 12 we conducted the “GO RED Campaign” fund drive and gave out information of the symptoms of Heart Disease in Women, the number one killer of women, in the United States and sent their donations to the American Heart Association.

St. Michaels Home, February 25 was attended by some of our ladies.

Our knitting ladies continue to make blankets for the children in our area hospitals.

We donated supplies to the Ronald MacDonald House in New Brunswick. Donations were also sent to the area Food Banks and they were very much needed.

The Lenten Luncheon, to benefit the HC/HC School of Theology, in Massachusetts took place March 15, with a delicious meal prepared by our ladies and a speaker, Mr. James Karamanos, a graduate of the School, talked of the college and its importance.

Our National and our Metropolis obligations were filled and our needy families received our assistance.

The ladies are busy baking for our festival and looking forward to help with Easter and our St. George Celebration.

Happy Easter,

Fall 2011 News:

The Ladies Philoptochos Society “St. Barbara” Chapter #1033, of St. George Church, Piscataway, New Jersey, wishes all our sister chapters a very blessed ecclesiastical year. With God’s help and Rev. Fr. Nicholas Pastrikos’s guidance we will attempt to undertake the activities planned by our community, the National and Metropolis Philoptochos responsibilities.

We know our ladies have the enthusiasm and energy to accomplish this with a smile in our heart.

We have 150 members who are very proud to belong to such a wonderful charity/organization. We reach the hearts of so many people here and around the world.

This year we hope to entice our youth and children of our Sunday School to participate and undertake some type of a fund-raiser and introduce them to the gift and gratification of gift giving to others less fortunate than us.

To our Sisters–in-Christ we wish a very successful and fruitful year.
